Hebron Homes and What They Need

Hebron was a farming community for most of its history — it was known as Briar Thicket and Tailholt before it took the name of the local Lutheran church, and its post office opened in 1858. Building the airfield on the high ground east of town in the 1940s meant clearing houses and farms to make room for runways. Suburban Hebron came after that, and mostly after 1980.

The current stock is about 2,240 units, 94% of them single-family detached and 84% owner-occupied. The median Hebron home was built in 1997. There is still a small older core — roughly 370 units predate 1960 — but the bulk of the community is subdivision housing that went up in three decades and is aging on the same schedule.

That schedule is the point. A 1997 architectural shingle rated for 25 or 30 years is at the end of that rating now, and the 2000s cohort is not far behind. Across a Hebron subdivision the roofs went on within a couple of years of each other, so when one street starts replacing, the rest of it is usually not far off.

Boone County went from 13,015 people in 1950 to nearly 136,000 in 2020, and Hebron is a piece of that. What it leaves us is easy work in one respect — large simple roof planes, walkable pitch, driveways that take a dump trailer — and the usual first-replacement questions in another: undersized builder gutters, hardened pipe boots, and step flashing that was never quite right.

Hebron has a recent, well-documented one. On 19 March 2025 an EF1 tornado with 105 mph winds touched down just northeast of Burlington, crossed KY-237 — the main road through Hebron — with partial roof removal at an industrial site, and went on to hit the airport, where the National Weather Service recorded extensive wall and roof damage to a building, a displaced aircraft and about a dozen damaged vehicles. In June 2026 another EF1 crossed I-71/75 south of here, lifting commercial roofs and snapping a power pole.

On 11 August 2026 a derecho crossed the region — the first to reach Greater Cincinnati since 2012. A 68 mph gust was measured at Lunken, and Duke Energy lost more than 180,000 customers, with close to 49,000 still out in Hamilton County a day later. Wind damage of that kind is often not obvious from the ground; lifted shingles and loosened flashing show up as leaks months later. Northern Kentucky lost about 26,000 Duke customers, with downed lines and trees across Boone County. Hail is not the Boone County story, and we will say so: in eleven years the county has logged only three hail reports of an inch and a quarter or larger, and only two at Hebron itself — quarter-size in January 2018 and three-quarter-inch in May 2022. Nobody should be selling you a Hebron hail claim.

Our whole subdivision was built around 2000. Are we all due at once?
